New PA Veterans Museum Unveils Plans
Media, PA. – The newly formed Pennsylvania Veterans Museum celebrates its first phase of operations today with the releases of museum plans and the launch of its website www.paveteransmuseum.org. Online visitors will be able to join the veterans' forum to sound off on important issues and to chart the building progress.
Veterans now can add their own stories and mementos to the museum's database, or a family member can include it for them. Since every veteran has his or her own story, the database will give everyone the opportunity to experience the changing character of 20th century war. Their stories will give us a window into the diversity of events and wartime efforts of Pennsylvanians who were transformed by their service.
The home of the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum will be in the historic Armory at 12 East State Street in Media. Its battlements will be turned into a stage for exhibits that will thrust visitors into combat by utilizing the latest interactive technology with kiosks and war games, special audio and lighting effects, dramatic scenery and archival footage.
Supporters of PVM will be on hand. Special guests include Congressman Curt Weldon, 7th District; Congressman Robert Brady, 1st District; members of the PA State Legislature; and PA veterans, including representatives of the “Band of Brothers”, the Tuskegee Airmen, and the Battle of the Bulge.
The goal of the museum is to create a historically accurate resource that students, educators and the general public can access. Museum originators also hope that visitors will remember and learn from those who went before. The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum is scheduled to open late in 2004. Look for PVM Veterans Day events statewide.
